THE THIRD EDITION OF ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA ART WEEK STUDENT ART COMPETITION LAUNCHED BY THE TOURISM AUTHORITY

St. JOHN’S, ANTIGUA (October 1, 2025) – The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority has launched the third annual Antigua and Barbuda Art Week (ABAW) Student Art Competition. Now open until November 21, 2025, the competition provides a platform for young visual artists to celebrate their culture and showcase their imagination and talent through art.

This year’s theme, ‘Life in Antigua and Barbuda’, encourages the students to tell visual stories of everyday experiences, whether that be in the form of daily island life, family traditions, events, natural beauty, or moments that define what it means to live in the twin-island nation.

The competition welcomes entries from students in three age categories: 7 – 9, 10 – 12, and 13 – 17. Students may work in painting, drawing, or mixed media, using materials such as watercolour, acrylics, crayons, or collage.

“At the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, we recognise the vital role that the arts and our creative community play in enriching the visitor experience and sharing the story of who we are as a destination,” said Maria Blackman, Marketing Communications Manager and member of the ABAW Committee.

“The Student Art Competition, serves as an important platform for us to engage with young creatives, nurture their talents, and give them the opportunity to shine. We look forward to seeing how students interpret this year’s theme and express ‘Life in Antigua and Barbuda’ through art,” she said.

ABAW Student Art Competition Committee Lead Mauricia Frith added, “Every year, the participants surprise us with their originality and heart. We expect this year’s theme will spark an even deeper reflections of who we are as a people, seen through the eyes of our young artists.”

Entries must be delivered to The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, 1st Floor, John E. St. Luce Finance and Conference Centre by November 21, 2025. For full guidelines, rules, and submission requirements, please contact Committee Lead Mauricia Frith at Mauricia.Frith@visitaandb.com or call 1 (268) 562 7600.

Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of professional artists based in Antigua and Barbuda. The winning pieces will be unveiled during the ‘Rising Stars of Art’ awards ceremony at V. C. Bird International Airport on November 27. Following the ceremony, the selected works will be featured as part of the “Art and Fashion Exhibition” in the airport’s arrivals hall, offering visitors a colourful first impression of the destination’s creative talent. Prizes, including art supplies, will be awarded to the top winners in each category.

In addition to the student art competition, Antigua and Barbuda Art Week 2025 will provide other avenues for young artists to hone their skills and be inspired, to include art demonstrations with artist Gilly Gobinet, an interactive sustainable art workshop with Good Humans 268 inc., open galleries and an Art and Culture Bus Tour for students on November 28.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to FLOW for their continued support of the Antigua and Barbuda Art Week Student Art Competition. Their commitment to fostering youth development and creativity plays an invaluable role in ensuring the success of this initiative.
