For a taste of local life and a bit of adventure, hop on a bus from one of the bus stops or head to the East or West Bus station. Enjoy scenic rides while listening to the local lingo, through charming villages, stunning beaches, and historical sites.

Prefer to explore at your own pace?
Renting a car is a popular option. Just bring your valid driver’s license and pay a small EC$50 fee for a driving permit. Taxis are also readily available, with fixed fares to key destinations like the airport and English Harbour.

There are several ways to get around Antigua and Barbuda, including:

  • Buses

    List description heA cost-effective way to get around, but schedules can be unpredictable. Buses run from 5:30 AM–6 PM and offer regular service between St. John's and surrounding villages. You can find bus stops and the East or West Bus station. re

  • Taxis

    List description hereAvailable in built-up areas and are useful for transfers between the airport and major hotels. Fares are fixed and posted at the airport and taxi stands. Taxis are typically shared, so you may end up sharing a ride with other passengers. 

  • Rental Cars

    A popular option for visitors who want to explore the island at their own pace. You'll need a valid driver's license from your home country and to purchase a temporary driver's license in Antigua. We drive on the left-side of there road here, and most vehicles are right-hand drive.

  • Minbus Taxis

    Also known as "bus taxis", these small vans operate on set routes throughout the island. They're a great way to experience local life and get around the island affordably. 

  • Ferry

    You can take a ferry from Antigua to Barbuda, which takes about an hour and a half. 

  • Private Boat

    You can take a private boat from Antigua to Barbuda. 

  • Things to know

    Peak traffic hours are from 8 AM–4 PM. Sidewalks are not very common in Antigua, especially outside of downtown St. John's. Public transportation is not available in Barbuda due to its small size and centralized nature.
