CANADIAN TV PRODUCTION TEAM FILMS DOCUSERIES IN ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA

St John’s, Antigua (November 6, 2025) – Global Heroes Productions, a Canadian television production company, with the support of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority’s (ABTA) Canada office, filmed a multi-episode docuseries, The Good Trek with Alex Kopacz, in Antigua last week. The production team spent 10 days capturing the authentic beauty, history and culture of the island, and interviewing residents who are working towards building better communities.

“We were very pleased to have hosted Global Heroes Productions and to share the unique stories and people that make Antigua and Barbuda so special,” said Tameka Wharton, Director of Tourism for Canada. “This collaboration allows us to connect with an engaged audience that values authentic experiences and sustainable practices.”

This project highlights a growing trend towards meaningful travel, where visitors seek to engage with and connect to the people and local culture. By featuring Antigua and Barbuda through this lens, the docuseries aims to inspire viewers to go beyond traditional attractions, promoting travel experiences that support social initiatives and contribute to the sustainable development of the destination.

While on the island the film crew visited the Antigua Naval Dockyard UNESCO World Heritage Site in the National Park and captured some of the Independence celebrations including the National Awards Ceremony, parade, and the food fair. An aspiring Antiguan filmmaker also had the opportunity to shadow and learn from the crew, building capacity of local talent.

Host of the series, Alexander Kopacz, a Canadian Olympic gold medalist and public speaker, met with Team Antigua Island Girls, fishermen, market vendors and the Ras Freeman community. In addition to these exciting interviews, the episode will also feature The National Sailing Academy’s Sailability programme, and the Elkhorn Marine Conservancy’s efforts to revive Antigua and Barbuda’s ecosystems.

“We are thrilled to have had the support of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority to showcase the heart and soul of this incredible country. Our mission is to shine a light on the positive efforts of people around the world who are providing solutions for their communities’ greatest challenges,” said Amir Shirazi, President of Global Heroes Productions.

“In Antigua, we discovered a powerful narrative of resilience, and a deep commitment to preserving the natural and cultural heritage, which perfectly embodies the spirit of The Good Trek.”

The Good Trek is a cornerstone of Global Heroes’ programming, dedicated to exploring diverse cultures, savouring local cuisines, and showcasing individuals and organisations that create positive change. The Antigua and Barbuda featured series will air in Canada and globally.

ABOUT ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA

Antigua (pronounced An-tee’ga) and Barbuda (Bar-byew’da) is located in the heart of the Caribbean Sea. The twin-island paradise offers visitors two uniquely distinct experiences, ideal temperatures year-round, a rich history, vibrant culture, exhilarating excursions, award-winning resorts, mouth-watering cuisine and 365 stunning pink and white-sand beaches – one for every day of the year. The largest of the English-speaking Leeward Islands, Antigua comprises 108-square miles with rich history and spectacular topography that provides a variety of popular sightseeing opportunities. Nelson’s Dockyard, the only continuously working Georgian era dockyard in the world, and a listed UNESCO World Heritage site, is perhaps the most renowned landmark. Antigua’s tourism events calendar includes the Antigua Racing Cup, Antigua Sailing Week, Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, Antigua and Barbuda Culinary Month, the annual Antigua Carnival; known as the Caribbean’s Greatest Summer Festival and Antigua and Barbuda Art Week. Barbuda, Antigua’s smaller sister island, is the ultimate celebrity hideaway. The island lies 27 miles north-east of Antigua and is just a 15-minute plane ride away. Barbuda is known for its untouched 11-mile stretch of pink sand beach and as the home of the largest Frigate Bird Sanctuary in the Western Hemisphere.
