ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA EXHIBITS ITS PAVILION UNDER THE THEME OF “SAVING LIVES” AT OSAKA, KANSAI EXPO

ST. JOHN’S, ANTIGUA (April 15, 2025) – Antigua and Barbuda is participating in Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, held in Japan from April 13 to October 2025, under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”.

Designed to reflect the destination’s expo motto, “Each endeavouring, all achieving, committing to protect and save the environment for all walks of life in Antigua and Barbuda” the destination’s pavilion underscores the twin-island nation’s commitment to safeguarding its environment for the benefit of all.

The pavilion is being manned by teams from the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority and the Antigua and Barbuda Ministry of Tourism.

Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment, The Honourable Charles Fernandez, said, “We are showcasing the very best of Antigua and Barbuda in Japan, from our breathtaking travel experiences to investment opportunities. Expo 2025 also provides an ideal platform for networking and the exchanging of ideas and culture, bringing further awareness to our sustainability programmes, while celebrating the exceptional talent that defines our twin-island nation.”

Javier Jacobs, Commissioner-General for Antigua and Barbuda at the expo, expressed the pavilion’s mission saying, “Visitors should expect to leave Antigua and Barbuda’s pavilion feeling inspired by our commitment to sustain our land and sea, be captivated by our rich cultural heritage, and most importantly motivated to join us in preserving and celebrating the natural and cultural treasures that make our twin-island nation unique.”

Aligned with the Expo’s core theme and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Antigua and Barbuda’s pavilion focuses on three key areas: Environment, Socio-Culture, and Economics, which fall under the expo sub-theme “Saving Lives”.

The Antigua and Barbuda pavilion located within the “Common D” section showcases initiatives emphasizing the preservation and sustainability of Antigua and Barbuda’s land and sea, and a full commitment to biodiversity, to include green energy initiatives and the development of a green corridor on the south-west coast of Antigua, featuring businesses and experiences focused on operating in adherence to best sustainable practices.

Key projects being highlighted include, the Redonda Restoration Project: A remarkable transformation effort led by the Environmental Awareness Group (EAG) to restore biodiversity on the island of Redonda and, the Coral Reef Restoration Project: A conservation initiative by the National Parks Authority focused on rehabilitating vital marine ecosystems, within Antigua’s English Harbour.

The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority’s award-winning campaign ‘Cool is Clean’ which highlights the sustainable practice of recycling is also on show, with Mr. Cool Pine serving as the destination’s mascot.

Visitors to the pavilion will enjoy an interactive and engaging display of Antigua and Barbuda’s cultural heritage through displays crafted from sustainable and recyclable materials, such as jewellery, pottery, and ironwork. They will be exposed to the costumery of ‘Antigua Carnival’, Antigua and Barbuda’s national wear, the traditional game of ‘warri’, the work of local artists, and explore industrial tools and instruments that have shaped the culture and continue to play a role in the daily lives of those in the community.

The pavilion further highlights investment opportunities and ways partners worldwide can support sustainable development in Antigua and Barbuda, through partnerships with organizations like the Environmental Awareness Group, the National Parks Authority, the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU) and the Antigua and Barbuda Development Bank.

On September 28, 2025, Antigua and Barbuda’s National Day at the Expo will feature electrifying and culturally immersive performances. This captivating display will be filled with the distinct sounds of the steel pan, and vibrant cultural dances that will showcase the traditions of Antigua and Barbuda and celebrate the essence of the twin-islands.

Visitors are invited to experience Antigua and Barbuda’s pavilion where they will gain a deeper understanding of Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to the environment, its rich cultural traditions and the vision – to ensure the sustainability of the country for future generations.
