Frigate Bird closeup

Frigate Bird Sanctuary

A natural bird watcher’s paradise

Our sister island Barbuda, is home to the largest Frigate Bird Colony in the western hemisphere. This colony is located in the capital of Barbuda – Codrington – in the Codrington Lagoon, and is only accessible by a short boat trip with a knowledgeable tour guide.

These magnificent birds travel between the Caribbean and Galapagos islands during the varying mating seasons.

Take the short trip over to Antigua’s sister island Barbuda. Fly-in by helicopter, plane or boat depending on your preferred mode of transport. Join a small boat tour to the sanctuary which contains over 170 species of birds in addition to the more than 5,000 Frigate birds that call Barbuda their home.

In total, the Barbuda Frigate Bird Sanctuary has an estimated population of 100,000 birds.
